Chapter 1251 - 66: Surviving Alone
Chapter 1251 - 66: Surviving Alone
"That light..."Bologue looked at the hazy glow below, recalling all the experiences he encountered after stepping into here. Suddenly, he realized that he could always glimpse this light within different regions.
"Is there something wrong with this light?" Bologue suppressed his doubts and asked Furya.
She was practically a local in the Ruins District. With Furya around, Bologue saved a lot of effort in gathering information.
"I don’t know."
Furya shook her head, "I just find it very strange. I’ve seen this light in many regions... It makes me very uneasy."
The light doesn’t spread throughout all regions, but its existence overlaps with various spaces, illuminating wherever one is in the Ruins District.
"Uneasy?"
Bologue stared directly at the light, feeling no anomaly himself, whether through umbilical cords or tangles.
"Honestly, you may not believe it, but it’s related to my Secret Energy."
Furya confessed to Bologue, fearing he wouldn’t believe her, or worse, the Evil Spirit might find her worthless and abandon her.
"My Secret Energy is from the Deceitful Structure School."
"Oh?"
Upon hearing about the Deceitful Structure School, Bologue’s eyes lit up. This mysterious and complex school of Secret Energy always brought him surprises.
"Its name is Fortune and Misfortune Prediction," Furya continued.
"A Secret Energy that helps you avoid harm and seek benefits?" Bologue suddenly understood.
"Yes, its specific effect is not obvious, but it’s a kind of precognitive ability. It can sense where danger is and where safety lies," Furya revealed without reservation, "It’s that power which allowed me to survive in this ghostly place for so long."
While saying this, Furya opened her bag, took out a can of beef, skillfully pried it open in front of Bologue, and ravenously devoured it.
"Sorry, I’m too hungry. These storage rooms are getting harder to find."
After a simple hunger removal, Furya threw the empty can into the void, with no echo of impact for a long time.
She wiped her mouth and continued, "I put full trust in my Secret Energy. Without it, I would have died long ago, so I blindly trust everything I predict."
"In other words, you’ve sensed a threat from that light?" Bologue asked.
"More than a threat, it feels like pure malevolence."
Furya muttered as she gazed at the light, "The first time I noticed it, I almost cried."
Bologue noticed that Furya was indeed prone to tears, but considering her experiences, it was quite understandable.
"It took me a long time to get used to this thing. But as for what it is, I’m sorry, I don’t know. I’ve used all my strength just to survive here, with no energy left to figure out what’s happening."
"It’s okay, you’ve done well enough."
Bologue comforted her, then curiously asked, "Why did you run away when you saw me? I mean you sensed no malice from me."
Furya turned her head to look at the fierce Evil Spirit before her, helplessly replied, "Well, your appearance is intimidating without needing any Secret Energy predictions, right?"
Bologue began to wonder what his image really was in Furya’s eyes.
"Alright, it’s somewhat rewarding," Bologue revealed his objective, "I need all the information you have about the Ruins District, Furya. In return, I can take you out of here."
"Take me out of here!"
Furya’s eyes gleamed, and under the temptation of freedom, she suddenly felt the Evil Spirit looking rather handsome.
"Yes, I know the way back, just follow..."
Bologue glanced at the Ether line at his waist. Tracing the infinitely extending Ethereal Silk Thread, he could find the way back to the Outpost, allowing Furya to escape this maddeningly twisted large Void Realm.
His gaze swept across, only to see a blank.
Bologue’s movements stiffened, even a flicker of panic crossed his eyes.
"Hold on a second."
Bologue spun around on the spot, releasing his Ether, but no matter how he tried, the golden virtual-real line of brilliance never appeared.
"I guess... the thing that can get us out of here is gone, right?" Furya cautiously asked.
Bologue fell into silence; the oppressive quiet communicated many things.
The Ether line had broken.
This line is like a lifeline, connecting Bologue and the outpost, but now it has broken.
Bologue made an effort to control his emotions. He didn’t lose control but rather quickly reviewed his actions to speculate on when the Ethereal Line had severed.
Furya’s emotions swung from extreme joy to deep sorrow, quickly overtaken by a sense of loss. Fortunately, she wasn’t so easily defeated and soon regained her spirits.
"It’s okay, you’re a Negative Power User. With my experience and your power, we might be able to fight our way out."
Bologue didn’t respond to Furya’s words; instead, he asked abruptly.
"Furya, do you know anything about the internal security department?"
Fear surfaced in Furya’s eyes, "Why are you asking this?"
"You know of their existence? Well, of course, if you want to survive here, you inevitably interact with those staff," Bologue scrutinized the uniform on Furya, "Interacting with them, you’d naturally hear what they say."
Bologue restrained the pressure emanating from him, making Furya feel a bit more at ease.
"I just encountered a security staff member from the internal security department. Compared to other ordinary staff and field staff, their permission level is very high. They can control the entire Ruins District’s power, modify buildings, and manipulate the rampant Ether."
"You fought them?" Furya was extremely shocked, "And you... escaped?"
"Yes, I suspect that our means of escape was destroyed during the fight with it."
Bologue looked at his empty waist; security staff can already be considered an embodiment of part of the Ruins District’s will. Such power severing the Ethereal Line isn’t unusual.
"You actually managed to escape..." Furya muttered to herself.
"What? Are they very dangerous?" Bologue felt like he was stating the obvious, but he still tried to guide Furya to speak more about the information.
"More than just dangerous... I wasn’t always alone."
Furya suddenly said, "In the beginning, the Cultivation Room was suddenly attacked. They all said it was done by the King’s Secret Sword. Everything was collapsing, and so I and many others hid in the sanctuary."
Bologue nodded; he had heard such stories from Belli as well. During Xilin’s invasion, to protect the staff, the Cultivation Room opened a safety passage, sheltering many staff within the isolated sanctuary.
Evidently, some sanctuaries fell into the Ruins District.
"We didn’t know what happened afterward, only that we stayed in the sanctuary for a very long time, long enough that the supplies inside were nearly depleted. Later, we found a way to escape the sanctuary..."
Bologue recounted coldly, "Then the whole world had changed, with the familiar Cultivation Room becoming mad and twisted, filled with horrifying monsters."
Furya recounted the nightmare in a low voice, "Everyone died one after another; many were killed by the security staff. In the end, only I was left."
"You’ve done excellently," Bologue said.
"Mm."
Furya responded softly and then, seemingly to comfort herself, joked, "If we can get out, my internship experience should amaze everyone, right?"
"Of course," Bologue continued, "If I can get you out alive, I might even consider adding you to my action team."
"Your action team?" Furya was taken aback, "You’re a team leader? What about your team members? Could it be that they..."
"Don’t worry, they’re not dead. You’ve been out of contact with the Order Bureau for too long; many things have changed," Bologue said, "This operation is only me; I can handle such troublesome things alone."
"Aren’t you afraid of dying?" Furya thought Bologue was insane, "Or was it some sort of office politics where you failed and were sent here to die?"
Furya’s thought process was unexpectedly whimsical, highly capable of entertaining herself.
"No, no, you’re overthinking it. I’m just genuinely fit to handle such troublesome things," Bologue added, "I am an Undead."
"An Undead!"
Furya was even more shocked. The evil spirit in front of her was actually an Undead, then she began to feel fortunate that this evil spirit was an ally, and he wasn’t a real evil spirit but a living person.
Furya tried hard to convince herself to accept having such a terrifying existence as a companion.
"We should go."
Bologue inspected the Ethereal Line at his waist once more, and confirming it was truly severed, he had to accept this reality reluctantly.
"You said this place isn’t safe, so you must know where to avoid the prying eyes of this hazy light."
"Yes, I know a few safety houses," Furya said.
Bologue carried Furya’s supplies for her, and she walked ahead through the winding stairway. After only a few steps, she suddenly turned her head to ask.
"So, what exactly happened back then? Did the King’s Secret Sword invade us?"
Bologue nodded heavily and on the way, began to tell Furya about the aftermath of that year.
"Later, we referred to that incident as the Secret War."
