Chapter 1456: Intermission 9: The Land Of Demons (1)
I decided to visit Mammon together with Amon.
Amon didn’t seem particularly opposed to the idea of meeting her mother again, but at the same time, she didn’t look especially enthusiastic about it either. If anything, she appeared completely neutral about the whole situation.
It was a little strange to see.
Mammon was her mother, after all. Normally, seeing a parent after being apart for so long would probably stir up all kinds of emotions. But with Amon, it didn’t really feel that way. Rather than treating this as some long-awaited family reunion, she seemed to view it more like a professional meeting that happened to involve a relative.
Not that I could blame her.
Amon had always been the type to keep her emotions under control.
Still, it was hard not to notice the difference.
As our helicopter continued its flight toward the mansion of the Demon Servants, Amon remained calm and composed throughout the journey. She wasn’t nervous, nor did she seem excited.
Eventually, the helicopter began descending toward the mansion grounds.
The moment we landed and stepped outside, I immediately noticed that someone was already waiting for us.
And unsurprisingly, that person was Mammon.
She stood there wearing her usual maid uniform, looking as elegant and composed as ever while she waited for our arrival.
Just like Amon, Mammon was incredibly busty.
Actually, seeing them together made the family resemblance pretty obvious.
Mammon possessed the kind of figure that naturally drew attention without her needing to do anything. Her body looked almost unfairly attractive. Every curve seemed perfectly shaped, creating an appearance that was both mature and incredibly seductive.
Her waist narrowed beautifully before widening into her hips, and those hips curved outward in a way that naturally attracted attention. It was the sort of figure that made your eyes follow the lines of her body before you even realized you were staring.
Honestly, it felt like her entire silhouette had been designed specifically to tempt people.
Then again, Amon wasn’t exactly lacking in that department either.
Amon had an incredibly attractive body herself.
She carried a pleasant amount of softness all around her frame, giving her figure a fullness that looked incredibly appealing. There was thickness in all the right places, and from personal experience, I knew that she felt just as good as she looked.
"Thank goodness both of you had a safe trip."
Mammon greeted us with a warm smile.
The happiness in her voice sounded completely genuine.
She looked pleased to see me, but when her eyes shifted toward Amon, there was a different kind of warmth there.
Amon responded with a small smile of her own before politely bowing her head.
It wasn’t an emotional reunion by any means, but it was still nice to see.
"Well, now that both of you are here," Mammon continued, "I don’t see any reason for us to keep standing outside. Come inside. I’ll have something prepared for you to eat."
Without wasting any more time, we followed her into the mansion.
The mansion itself was enormous.
The place was filled to the brim with maids.
Every hallway seemed occupied by them.
Some were cleaning, some were carrying supplies, and others appeared busy handling various tasks throughout the mansion.
Honestly, seeing so many maids in one place almost felt surreal.
Then again, considering that this was the headquarters of the Demon Servants, it was probably exactly what I should have expected.
Since Demon Servants were literally born to serve others, it only made sense that this place would be overflowing with them.
Even Mammon herself wasn’t exempt from that nature.
Despite being the leader of the Demon Servants, she was still one of them.
Their desire to serve was something deeply ingrained within them.
Over the course of her life, Mammon had served many individuals before eventually becoming the leader she was today.
As we continued walking deeper into the mansion, we passed through a long hallway lined with elegant decorations.
The place looked expensive.
Not flashy or excessive, but expensive in the way that made it obvious that a ridiculous amount of money had been invested into maintaining it.
Everything looked pristine.
Honestly, if someone dropped a grain of dust on the floor, I was pretty sure five maids would appear out of nowhere to deal with it.
After walking for a while, we eventually arrived at what appeared to be the main hall.
The room itself was huge.
Mammon led us toward a large couch positioned near the center of the hall.
The moment I sat down, I immediately realized how comfortable it was.
It felt like the couch was actively trying to convince me not to leave.
Amon, however, chose not to sit down.
Instead of taking a seat beside me, she moved behind the couch and quietly took her place there.
Standing.
As usual.
I glanced back at her.
Honestly, she could have sat down if she wanted to.
Nobody here would have questioned it.
Not even Mammon.
But I already understood why she wasn’t doing it.
In Amon’s mind, she was my maid first and everything else second.
Even here.
Even in front of her own mother.
She still maintained the role she had chosen for herself.
The servant standing behind her master.
As much as I personally preferred having her beside me rather than behind me, I wasn’t going to force the issue.
After all, being a servant wasn’t just a job for the Demon Servants.
It was part of their nature.
Trying to fight against that would probably be like telling a fish not to swim.
So I decided not to say anything.
"I have to admit," Mammon said after we settled down, "I was surprised when you contacted me and said you were planning to visit."
She smiled lightly.
"I honestly wasn’t expecting it."
"Well," I replied, leaning back into the incredibly dangerous couch that was trying to trap me forever, "I’m planning to conduct some business here, so I’ll probably be staying in the Demon Continent for a while."
Mammon tilted her head.
"Business?" she asked. "In the Demon Continent?"
"More or less."
I nodded.
"I’ve heard that merchants travel throughout the continent regularly and conduct trade with various settlements. Since I’m already here, I figured this would be a good opportunity to learn how the trade routes actually function."
Mammon listened attentively.
I continued.
"At the same time, I want to see what kinds of opportunities exist here. If there are products worth trading or investments worth pursuing, I’d like to explore them."
Mammon looked genuinely impressed.
"You really are a businessman, Leon."
"I try."
"No, seriously," she said with a small laugh. "Most people wouldn’t even consider doing something like this. The Demon Continent isn’t exactly known for being safe."
"That’s true."
I shrugged.
"But I wouldn’t have gotten very far if I avoided every risk that came my way."
That was simply how I viewed things.
Anyone who wanted to grow eventually had to take risks.
Not reckless risks.
Not stupid risks.
But risks nonetheless.
If you spent your entire life avoiding every possible danger, you would probably stay exactly where you started.
Growth required movement.
And movement usually came with uncertainty.
At least, that was what I believed.
Mammon nodded thoughtfully.
"I suppose that’s a fair point."
Then she smiled.
"Although as much as I would like to assist you with that venture, unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be able to participate."
"That’s fine," I said.
Honestly, I had already expected that answer.
"I originally planned on bringing Amon along with me anyway, but after thinking about it, I decided something else would probably be better."
Mammon blinked.
"Oh?"
"I think I’d rather have the two of you spend some time together."
Mammon looked slightly surprised.
"The two of us?"
"Yeah."
I glanced toward Amon.
"It’s been a while since you’ve had the chance to properly catch up with each other, hasn’t it?"
Mammon turned toward her daughter.
"Is that so?" she asked.
Amon nodded.
"Well, I did tell Master that I wanted to accompany him," Amon replied. "However, it seems that he would prefer for me to spend more time with you instead. Since it is his wish, I intend to respect it."
For a brief moment, Mammon simply stared at her.
Then a soft smile appeared on her face.
She looked genuinely happy.
And honestly, I couldn’t blame her for that.
No matter how composed she acted, this was still her daughter.
It had been a long time since they had the opportunity to spend time together like this.
Under those circumstances, it would have been stranger if she wasn’t happy.
